Registering For U.S. Federal Procurement Opportunities

Registering your business with any Federal Agency or Agencies will require that you provide at least three basic pieces of information.  The information required is as follows;

Or you may call them directly at 1-866-705-5711

  • NAICS: (North American Industry Classification System)  The NAICS was created to classify the nature of all North American Business establishment.  Each and every business type is assigned a 6-digit code which is used to identify the type of business or services your business offers.  To find your NAICS number, go to  http://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/.   Simply enter the type of business or service in which your business is involved into the box at the upper left and you will be taken to a page of optional classification codes for your review.  If your business offers more than one type of service or product, you will need to find the appropriate categories for each offering.
  • Federal Employer I.D. or Social Security Number: Go here to apply for your Federal I.D. number.  http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html
  • Cage Code: *Do not skip this one.  Cage Codes will define your business using government specified terms that will allow you to identify potential buyers for your products and services, sign up for buyer-vendor matching services and submit government bids and proposals.  Cage codes were originally design to be used strictly by the Department of Defense, however, these classification codes are now used by most U.S. Government Agencies.

To receive your Cage Code, you must complete the Department of Defense Central Contractor Registration forms at http://www.ccr.gov/Start.aspx

“Does your business development strategy include providing goods and services to the Federal government? Creating a profile in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and the Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) and keeping it current ensures that your firm has access to federal contracting opportunities, especially those for small businesses. Entering your small business profile data into CCR allows you to populate the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Supplemental Pages, known as DSBS, where your business information and capabilities statements can be viewed by contracting officers, large prime contractors, and the general public.”

Once you have completed your business registrations as shown above, be certain to sign up for the current procurement notices at..
